I have Comcast at the house for both the internet and cable but I have been spending some time taking care of a relative, I put in a 1Mbps connection since they had no internet. Comcast has their own streaming service so I can log into Comcast and watch just about anything I can at home. Surprisingly I'm getting reasonably good streaming video, it's certainly watchable for the most part. Much better than I thought it was going to be.
The only thing that was really bad was trying to watch live football game.The other issue is commercials, apparently they don't have them in low bandwidth. They take along time to load/play.
Are you on comcast? I just wasted 2 hours with internet access problems, but its fine now.
If Comcast is working on the system in your area there will sometime be access problems. My daughter has that problem every now and then. Every time she has checked outside across the street is a Comcast service van parked in front of a service main access box.
Not sure if that's your case but if they are doing some kind of work it might be a reason why.
We seemed to have packet loss & I have been paying 6 months w RCN at 110 mb/s fastest tier. Tech left without testing much. I just booted up 10 wireless devices, set 8 to stream movies (including a few HD) PLUS added 2 to run upload file transfers. Then the ELEVENTH device was LAN tied to the modem while I ran ping/trace tests. While there seemed to be little packet loss over the hour I ran it..ALL movies played PERFECT & I took one device off to run speedtest.net RESULTS WERE 4.98 upload and 1.96 download. CLEARLY TOMORROW I DROP DOWN TO RCN LOWEST TIER!
you're running 10 devices simultaneously and don't understand why your upload/download speeds are now so low. Are you kidding?? You've created you're own traffic jam.

You need bigger pipes, the OP stated a 110Mbps connection. Wouldn't be surprised it's on his end, router etc..

110 is at the modem only. when a person has everything running, everything does not get 110. Even with the house analogy, the size of the pipes will not matter once one exceeds the actual flow through those pipes.

I'm aware of that. Even if you have 11 devices downloading 6Mbps video you're only up 66. I'm, assuming when he said HD video he meant somewhere like Netflix. I guess the big question is what speeds or what was he downloading on the other devices.

This is a wireless network limited by its wireless router and the distance from the router. so with all this RF plus probably some cellphones do you really think the loss will only be 40Mbps??
Depends on your computer. My ISP upgraded me free from 20 to 50Mbps. I detected absolutely no change in performance on my 1.5gb laptop. Still jerky motion when live-streaming, but its clean on on-line movies, just as it was when I had 20Mbps.
I only get full download speed using ethernet, it slows down if I use cheap wireless router.
