Everybody does it.

I had Cox cable a long time ago. Out of the blue we get a letter saying "hey, we are adding 40 new channels for you FREE!"
Wow, cool!
Not 2 weeks later I see ATT vans outside running fiber for Uverse. Within a month Cox was no longer the only provider in the area.
