If this gets popular, the five character user id with no password will be a giant security hole.

Also, I can put whatever I want in the fields. Invalid emails, insanely large prices (which then makes your web page scroll across the screen)

Also, the state drop down is flaky. There's a rather large vertical gap and some blinking happens when I go down to a state.

Much better today. I was able to type in the fields, but the previous poster is correct, you need some controls set for input. Figuring you are still building so it's a "later" project.

The look of the page is much nicer now. Keep at it!!

Thanks. I experienced that word glitch where Massachusetts kept flashing. I changed themes. Working on the color scheme a bit now.

I'll have to look into verification for entries, although I imagine this site won't get TOO popular in a listing sense, as only heating oil companies will be registering. I would be able to keep up with editing and formatting of email addresses, etc.

It's been a while, but you ahould be able to add a mask for entries. For email it would be something like *@*.* I doubt that's what it really looks like but the idea is

Any length of characters (*) separated by an @, followed by any length of characters, separated by a period, followed by any number of characters.

Someone who's more familiar with this might show up and correct my syntax.

Emails, phone numbers, and price now need to be properly formatted. Thanks for the advice.

Much better, but tell the user what is required on the original input page, not after they added info and you go to the next page. I know it's impossible to make everyone understand exactly what you expect, but the clearer you can make the expectation the better.

Either tell them the price needs the dollar sign right under the input field or add it in the program (why is it required anyway?).

If you require http:// for the url add it in your code instead of asking them to. A lot of people only use www. to start a url.

For both you can have the info in the field and have their typing start after it, or check for it in code and add it before you save it to the database. Think about it. You know the format is wrong, and why it is wrong. Just fix it yourself.

Keep this as simple as possible for the person inputting data. Some people get frustrated very easily and you don't want to lose them.

Professional User Experience designer here.

I'd echo a lot of what Tek_Freek said about requiring users to format fields in certain ways. It's generally a bad idea; it leaves more room for error—and in turn, frustration—for the user. Generally-speaking, you should let the user input the data however they'd like, apply some simple validation, and then sanitize it on your end after you've received it.

I'd also suggest some type of inline validation and error messages. It's no fun to go through a form, hit submit, and find yourself back at the same page with a bunch of red marks everywhere. Alerting users to errors immediately helps eliminate that "go back and do it all over" workflow.

Lastly, the HTML structure of your form is very, very poor; it's not semantically correct and it's almost completely inaccessible to people using assistive devices like screen readers. The Mozilla Developer Network website has a good article on HTML form structure; take a look.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or you'd like any help.

You have links to other services on the AC page, but not the heating page.

Service Area listings are inconsistent in text size, and some have links to some cities, and some don't.
