It started to take so long to wait for everything that I was spending more time just sitting and waiting than being on the internet. I downloaded Windows defender, is that any good? I don't have an antivirus though.

Please help with suggestions that don't take up a ton of space? I know very little about these things, I have always had Norton.

I would really appreciate if somebody would help, I don't really know what I need or what company to trust.

Thanks

For Windows: https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/

Norton is one of the best, but there are others that are very good as well.

Be sure to run the removal tool for Norton, this may remove stuff deeper in the system that was not removed during uninstall that can potentially cause problems.

Defender for win7 and below is just anti malware, for 8 and above its anti virus and anti malware.

For 7 and below download Security Essentials instead of defender for both anti virus and anti malware.

As for other suggestions I'll leave that for others.

I recently ran a long test on 3 computers to only run Essentials and nothing else.
6 months in and those 3 PC's have not been infected with anything.
Call me impressed.

I've been running nothing but Essentials for years without issue. I used to use AVG, forget why I switched, think it was the nag screens.

I think you should try a trail version before buying full version. I had used Norton too and not had go experience. I also used Microsoft Security Essential and SoftBaytes and I think both of these are good and effective. You may try any of these Antivirus.

I've used the free version of Avast for several years with no problems whatsoever, no viruses, no malware.
