Well I thought it was fantastic when I got on in 1994, and so strange to be able to live type to someone for free who lived in ICELAND!
Back then the access was via a dial up shell command line account, or AOL etc which charged by the minute, and with the dial up shell you had to use Lynx for the web browser, Tin for newsgroups, Pine for email, and Telnet, and there were only a few web sites, no photos and videos like today, and my modem was 2400 baud and text would appear on the screen to read emails about as fast as someone typed.
When I got the 28.8 modem it was like WOW so fast!!!! but as more sites started loading up with big graphics and videos everything slowed down.
