And there is a standard: Skype. All the TV manufacturer needs is to add a Skype app to their smart TV.
Skype is not a standard. Skype is a Microsoft product that Microsoft will not allow anyone else to use. Like Facetime is a standard Apple will not let anyone else use. Like Duo is a Google standard that no one else can use.

For example, the TVs intended to sell into the 2017 Christmas season market are already well into the design phase, and my guess is they will enter production 3-4 months before Christmas. Such vast quantities require planning well in advance.
Care to wager they won't have video calling on them? That might have been a thing 10 years ago.
Not today. Phones have filled that video conferencing feature.
One day in the future we will have full wall sized TV video with video calling, which will essentially join your family room with the TV wall if your friends & family TV wall. It will be just like visiting in person except for no ability to touch.
When I joined, it wasn't a requirement to give out a phone number, so I never did. And I never will put my cell phone number on Facebook, no matter what. I've also removed my date of birth and other private info from there.
Several years ago I made up a fake birth date, over 21 years old to guarantee being treated as an adult, so I can consistently use it across all websites that ask for that information. Anybody who gains access to my "birth date" learns nothing real about me.
Good one! How about that pot party you enjoyed with your friends, and they posted pictures of you smoking pot on FB, and a prospective employer checks out your FB page and sees your friends page showing you smoking pot? Lots of employers would decide to not hire you for potential substance abuse problems.

No perspective employer would ever be able to see anything posted on / about me on Facebook. My FB page is almost entirely private, and I default what posting I do (mostly images shared from my Instagram account) to friends only. I don't allow myself to be tagged by other people without my permission.
Nobody would ever find anything about me on FB either, because I'm not a member. Best privacy you can have!
Don't worry about it. If your FB account is clean there are 10x as many accounts of people opposite your type who are screaming their personal business all over FB. Doubtless some of them will come to grief.
The simple fact is that I'm a private person. I can tell my friends anything I want over the phone or in person. I don't need or want help from FB.
