This is also known as Shadow Banning and both Facebook and Twitter (and possibly others) are doing it more and more. It's a very close relative of the Craigslist 'ghosting' ban. I'm not exactly sure how it works; I can't seem to find a whole lot of information on it, but it absolutely goes on.
From what little I have been able to find out, Facebook seems to be squarely targeting people who are of Libertarian and/or Conservative persuasion. I guess its algorithms check for certain keywords, phrases, what you interact with, and so on. And if it doesn't 'like' you, you will be shadowed. You can still post. You can see your post. Just no one else can; it will be invisible.
I believe this is happening to me. I posted a comment on a popular newsfeed site today. Nothing spammy or trolling or anything of that nature. Just a dissenting view. It has not received one reaction (like/dislike/comment) of any kind. None. Yet comments posted after and adjacent to it have had THOUSANDS of reactions in the same amount of time. Something stinks to high heaven there.
This issue isn't quite full on front and center mainstream-yet.
But I am seeing a trend. And it's not looking good. And it's only a matter of time before it is and Facebook gets a major backlash.
'Shadow' or 'ghosting' ban... Huh. it's good now to be able to put a name on it. I had no idea what it was really called.
