A T-Mobile Mini Internet TV Box Spotted At The FCC

Obviously there is no F-type coaxial connection, but there is an ethernet jack

If T-Mobile has a television service, it may work as hotspot from your phone with possible ethernet backup. T-Mobile already has Amazon Prime. Perhaps the partnership will continue and expand to other live TV channels.

What do you suppose the HDMI in jack is for? Auxiliary audio systems? Blue Ray players? Could it be used as an MHL connection to the phone?

Not sure what need this really fills. They won’t be bundling with Wireless to give people a cheaper rate and with streaming TV options now what’s the value proposition?

That is the billion dollar question. T-mobile has promised to disrupt the industry, but it is not clear to anyone what they have in mind.

In October T-Mobile began selling TV services from Layer3, the company they acquired. One reviewer went to see what was being offered and they found the same old service Layer3 had been offering for the last several year in a limited number of cities. Only now being sold at a $20/month discount if you already subscribe to T-Mobile Service.

Editor’s Corner—T-Mobile is currently selling TV services, and here’s what it looks like

Layer3 has basically been selling the BMW of streaming TV (i.e. better not cheaper). Their nominal price point is $110/month. While most people are buying streaming services to limit their number of channels and to reduce monthly outlay, Layer3 tries to appeal to people who want something better than QAM delivered cable TV with even more channels, but who aren't interested in a lower monthly cost. So the new owners, T-Mobile, are selling the same service for $90 to their pre-existing customers.

But as to the disruptive business practices that are supposed to be coming, we will probably be required to wait until the merger with Sprint gets approved.
