When Facebook finds accounts that look fake, or look like they’re using fake information, they ask the owner to confirm their identity. Giving them your mobile phone number, and having them send a code to your mobile number, is one way to get back into your account. If you can't confirm your identity using your mobile number, they will ask for a copy of your photo ID. If you don't do that, they have no way to determine if you have a fake account or not.

This isn't something that happens to everyone on Facebook. It has never happened to me or any of my friends in 10 years of being on Facebook. I hope you can get back into your account.

Fake FB accounts are good for gamers. Their friends are fellow gamers with fake FB accounts.
