I got an email a few days ago saying that they knew my password and all my contacts, FB friends, etc. and they were going to send a porn video to everyone if I did not pay them $2000 in bit coin.

I called my IT support and they said it was a "threat email" and it was fake. they checked my pc for viruses and did not find any.

I trashed it.

Got another one today and trashed that before even reading it.

Researched this more and found out that they hacked Monster.com a few years ago and that's how they got my email and password. (I have changed all my passwords since this email last week.)

I went onto Monster.com and deleted all my resumes and changed my password. I hadn't used Monster in about 10 yrs so all the information on my resume is out of date.

I haven't notified the FBI or anyone else except for my IT security people. My IT security said this is an email that has been going around for years.

Anyone have any information about this email? I'm more concerned with the fact that they have my old resumes although to be honest, who knows who else has that as well since I sent it to over 1000 companies when I was looking for work during the recession.

I did try to save the first email to pdf but it wouldn't let me. How do they do that?

How bad are these emails?

I’ve gotten a couple of them to an old email lately. I laughed because it said it hacked my router and was watching me doing something intimate in front of my webcam.

These are people trying to maybe get 1 out of 10,000 to respond whom they can threaten further.

Just delete and ignore.

follow the instructions of your network support people. Part of their job is (or should be) knowing what to do and who to contact.

Just a scam. Often they have uncovered some tidbit of info or some password you used somewhere. I seem to get them a couple times per year and they are all some variation of the same thing - video'ed me doing "something" while watching porn on my PC. They must really be good since my PC doesn't have a webcam.

And they certainly didn't download your resumes.
I get these far too often but the password they always say they have of mine... is off by 2 characters. So I write them back "Hey, as*^$&#... you might want to get your money back from whoever sold you those passwords... because that's never been mine."

You all are too funny! I didn't send them any money.

They did have the correct password for my Monster account. I haven't used that one in 10 years. Despite this, I went ahead and changed my password.

What I found really strange was that I couldn't PRINT their email. How do they prevent people from doing that? Very strange.
