I have noticed that my internet is not as consistent or fast as it once was. It's still useable but speeds are all over the place. I just wanted to see if others have experienced this as well.

Thank you.

Yes. I always notice similar issues whenever we have 'snow days' when kids are home from school and others work from home. I am actually slightly surprised that there have not been more problems and think that our provider (Comcast/Xfinity) is actually doing a pretty good job of handling the additional load.

My work computer got noticeably slower well before the stay home orders when we upgraded to Office 365. Since working from home there has been no change in processing speeds. I have noticed that every Teams or Skype meeting will have at least 5-6 incidents of someone dropping off, voice scrambled, or video freezing. Here at my home there will be 3 tablets and 4 phones attached to the internet all day, and on the same provider another 6 neighbors that I know of working from home.

Nope. We have Fios gigabit. The last time my internet slowed down noticeably was when a cable got cut. Otherwise, it's normal. 2 tablets, 2 phones, 2 Apple TV boxes, 3 Sonos speakers, the Sony smart TV (that we don't use the smart features of because we use the apple TV), wifes laptop and then all my work laptops off and on.

Thanks everyone. I will contact Verizon tomorrow to see their offers. I get a discount through my employer. Comcast has been reliable and fast until now so I never bothered switching.

Make sure you check on the claims that Verizon makes before you sign up. In this area the sales people promise that if you sign up for 'Hi speed Internet' (DSL) that you will be first in line when FIOS comes to the area 'soon'. It has been 'soon' for 10 years now and if you dig down into what Verizon has presented to the state Public Service Commission you will find out that currently their only plans to expand the FIOS footprint is if a developer provides a complete infrastructure installation to Verizon's standards.

If you’re on cable internet your bandwidth is shared with your neighbors, so if you are all streaming at the same time it will degrade.

This is different than fiber to the home, where everyone gets dedicated bandwidth (at least to a point - the bottleneck might be elsewhere).

Make sure if you switch to get FTTH, not DSL or other “high speed”.

Past few days we kept getting kicked off our WiFi. Logged into my router and found I may have neighbors’ kids logged onto our router. Changed password and no WiFi interruptions nor excessive slow downs.

I was getting knocked off quite often a few weeks ago. Seems to have resolved.
