I do not really know what has happened. So, I may be wrong here. I got an email from AAAS (whoever they are) asking for donation. I marked it spam and deleted it. Now something has covered part of the menu in my Gmail program. It has a blue circle with my name. Nothing I have tried has gotten rid of it. A plus sign simply opened a form for me to fill in. I did not. A message at the bottom said "no chat here" "send a chat".
I do have a call in to computer people but wondered if anyone has any idea. I did do Malware scan. It,, as always said it found nothing. Ditto virus scan.
P. S. This morning, I found a small arrow on that space (see above post) I clicked it and it came up with a list of things to do. The last line said "Sign out of Hangouts." I do know what Hangouts is - a conferencing app. Not for me.
I got no help from the person I tried to talk to yesterday. He just said it was nothing and to leave it here. Can any one please enlighten me? I want to get rid of this. I certainly cannot sign out of something that I never signed into in the first place.

You might try hitting F11 on startup and do a roll back to delete changes made to the system just before that date. Works for me.
TripleA S is a legitimate scientific society in the US. It sounds like the name was mimicked to fool people into donating. AAAS would never play tricks like that. Personally i would never donate to anything via a pop-up request. If you are so inclined type the name/address into your web browser and evaluate then donate from there.
