The business plans typically have faster upload speeds, dedicated IP and no limitations on using it as server. e.g. if you had website for the church you can serve it right from hardware in the church. Your own in house audio/video streaming/conferencing service is not out of the question either.

I suppose a church could do that... but it would be a horrible idea.

I wouldn't call it horrible. Depends on your skill level and other things like how important is 100% uptime. The world is not going to end if the church site goes offline for a while unless it's doomsday church. If I was forced to pay for service I'm going to capitalize on it. Minimally I'd be looking into streaming services.

I still can't think of any scenario where it makes sense to serve something from the church. Even if you wanted to stream via icecast (rather than SAAS solution), why would you host it in the church? It's just going to cost more and take more time.

The scenario is you are being forced to pay for a service, might as well capitalize on it if you can.

Yes, that is what got all of this started. We belong to a regional group of churches that normally have group meetings (I don't know how often) and when the virus hit, they decided to hold the meeting on Zoom.

I agree, but I don't think we have the expertise in house. I will be looking throughout the rest of the group of churches to see if we have subject matter experts, but for now, I am it, and my computer knowledge is about 20 years out of date.

It wouldn't be cost effective even if you did have the business internet. Don't do it in-house.

If we do anything like that, it will be through the regional group, which has more than 20 churches and more than 5000 members. If 1% of us understand some of the tech, we will have plenty of in house tech to work out solutions. The problem is that, until the virus became an issue, no one considered that we might need to do this.
