Considering the above situation....$5/month upcharge + "taxes" to get the faster internet connection for a year....would you do it?

Note that I stream everything and don't have cable/fios/etc. Roku and ota hdtv here.....what would you do?

If you need the speed, it's a no brainer. If you don't, it's not worth it... but it's also not an expensive risk to take.

What kind of internet? If cable then I’d consider it because you can get speed variation during peak hours. If fiber then I wouldn’t bother unless you want/need the extra speed. The other consideration is if the lower plan has a data cap and the higher one doesn’t, and you use a lot.

I have gigabit, and rarely use all of it, but the next time down was 100mbit and didn’t save me that much, plus the higher plan has no cap and I exceed 1TB some months.

$5/month is $60 a year. Add in the taxes... we're talking maybe $75?

I guess it depends on what you need and how much that $75 is going to affect you.
Also - see if they have options for discounts as well. My ISP gives me $5 a month credit for using direct w/d from my bank. If you have that offer, it'll offset that cost (minus the taxes depending on how it's levied).

just looked at the details...not worth it, as download speed is quite lower and not worth the hassle....

Probably not, it's hard to saturate 300 mbps to begin with.
