I'm in my 20s and since my teen years, I've been a member of this forum, Reddit, and The Straight Dope along with a national forum in my country.

It seems from talking to people IRL, almost no one has ever hard of these forums let alone uses them. I've heard these forums described as "asocial". Social forums are the ones that young kids use like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Is it actually rare to use these types of forums?

There are a lot of younger people on reddit, and I think tumblr, still. Facebook skews older, this site definitely skews older. I'm not sure where the youths are congregating online these days.

Considering there's nowhere you can turn on internet forums without hearing "you can't say this or that, kids might be reading!" I would say yes, it's common.

I would think anyone under 30 would be on social media since this isnt a site geared toward a cell phone

A lot of older people are on social media as well. Just via computers and tablets more than phones. City-Data is a good example.

Snapchat is kind of dead. A lot of Reddit users are switching to Twitch. Instagram has a good range of users.

i think the facelooks, twisters, instajams, snaptalks, ... are popular with the kids because one can brag and boast about the expensive sushi they are having and collect likes.

with vbulletin forums and reddit its more about discussion rather than one person flossing so kids dont use them much.
