Oh that's right! I kid you not.... my mom is verified! She became a semi-influencer on Instagram for her cooking tips/recipes. I still don't completely understand it.
For a short period, I was an SME on a topic and people would reach out to me on Facebook. I could have gotten verified but I had moved onto another platform. My mom's situation is wild. She'd an elder lady doing great things on social media.

Why not tho? Didn’t you want to show a photo ID?
Didn't make sense for me. People would seek me out to discuss specific topics... not to follow me. There's better avenues for people around the world to find me and discuss my work nowadays.

Sry...but... Facebook could totally help you with that....as long as they know you are who you say you are. That’s when you get in trouble IMO...so the verification process you started would help you IMO & if you use a real name & have a picture up....it’s no big deal ofc. It’s already there.

It's not going to help me. The industry has an industry-specific platform that meets this need now. It didn't exist when I was using Facebook. When Facebook reached out to me to start the process, I was already shifting over. Facebook still reaches out every now and then... different people. I get it on LinkedIn as well. These big tech companies have evangelists dedicated to this.

Oh...Facebook reached out to you to verify your acct & you told them no? That sounds super weird....like they suspected something was wrong with your acct. or a complaint was made against it. You think? Be careful tho...there are lots of ppl out there pretending to be somebody they are not. So...IMO...you are better off verifying everywhere....especially if they came to you.

It's in Facebook's interest to get as many verified people as they can. Texas said he's published... I'm sure Facebook is constantly combing through newly published work, etc. to get notable verified. There's nothing wrong with his account. He's just someone who's name is attached to publicly available work.
That being said, I don't see how it's better to verify everywhere if there's no value in it for you. There's a difference between a verified public official or musician and a book author (assuming here).
The other poster that said his mom is verified because of her social media presence is interesting. I wonder if she was someone known or if she got to that level on Facebook.
They started doing this to eliminate fake accounts. I had this idea that I was going to kind of start from scratch and create a new FB identify.
It’s annoying but how else are they going to keep people from creating fake accounts especially if they’re being used for the sole purpose of creating dissent and division.
True that re: fake accounts (or for the intent of harassment/cyberstalking).

Wow, yeah - excellent points. It's odd he/she would run away and 'not go through with it' i.e. it's self-protection, particularly if he/she has (newly-published) work/name associated with said account, per MEGAlot. It's ludicrous not to; I'd certainly go the extra mile to protect myself, particularly if I was given the head's up.
OP wanted to enter Marketplace to place ads and sell his stuff. That's why they asked about additional verification, but that's understandable. They don't want scam accounts and complaints about purchases that never went through.
Elnina - turns out that was the reason.
IF Facebook disclosed the ID requirement b4 I signed up for Marketplace - I would not have proceeded.
Now the account is locked because I will not give ID.
No way to get back to "basic" Facebook without Marketplace.
The facebook crew should just let the user Uninstall Marketplace, but they don't.
I won't miss Facebook.
