I used GoogleMaps to find my current home, it was a trip to see it.
Later, I used StreetView to see my building close up, that was really uncanny.
I used StreetView & GMaps to look at the place I visited in New Zealand (23 yrs. ago)-
that was amazing to see, I felt transported, for hours, clicking along the roads & scoping out the sights.
I used them to look at the house I grew up in, in Maine-it was really poignant and emotional for me doing that.
It was almost like visiting-without the hassle.
What's interesting is Google Maps close up satellite and Bing Maps Birds Eye View are both high res color photos up close - BUT they're different photos. You would think there is only one source (government or something) of these photos.

I took my computer out into my driveway and when I looked my house up on google maps I couldn't see me down there even though the image looked just like my house.
Why? They can drive down the street and see the same thing. And before Google, they did. In fact, before Google, your kids actually played outdoors where perverts could see them. Why didn't that scare you? Now, Google keeps kids safely hypnotized indoors.
By the way, for your information, the Google camera car does not follow your car down the street, and turn off where you do, and follow it to your house, and show your kids getting out of the car and going in the house, in real time. Just want to make sure that everyone understands that limitation on the existing technology presentlyin use for the general public.
I know, right? I guess for a hand job, that wouldn't suffice?
Well, I initially thought they were blurring only the fugly ones..lol, didn't think the privacy cr.p was the concern.

I use street view daily in my job, to read highway signs. Their software blurs many, if not most, of them, rendering the site useless in those instances. I understand the privacy concerns, and I support the concept, but I'd like to see them get it right.
I totally agree. I used to cruise down parts of Miami close to the beach and check out the hotties in bikinis. Well, I still do but hate seeing their faced blurred, it seems like a wet dream after getting wasted.
I agree about the street/highway signs though or even the building names are something blurred, very annoying and I feel it could have adverse effects for businesses.

Google maps (street view) could be as old as 5 years old but typically, around 2-3 years old for most streets.
I still see my truck on the street when I look up my old address that I moved out of in June 2011.
