Guys and gals,
A close friend of mine is considering internet, the only option available is wireless through sprint. They have an older Compaq with Windows 95 and his mom is wondering if the Sprint wireless would work with the Windows 95? If times weren't so tough they'd buy another comp... They just want internet.
Yah, in theory it will work.. though you may get the "it's not supported" and you may maybe have to jump through a few hoops to do it.. I would first look at the card you chooses spec's and see if it says 95, 98 or ME this means it's supported as those are all win95
Honestly.. if the person is going to pay $40-60 a month for internet (or so) couldn't they afford a new computer for a $100 I'm sure you can get xp used on a any old pc of craigslist/ebay/goodwill/wherever
If you’re using the tethering option via a phone.. it's possible that software may or may not work with pre windows 2000 computers..
Lastly you can buy a router.. and then just plug the sprint in via plain old ethernet or wireless which may up your cost some but with any computer having a ethernet or wireless card that will make it easy..
I'm with themaster. Put off buying the Internet access for two or three months, set the money aside, and get a newer (used) PC first. Grab a cheap dial up service (if you can find one that supports 95 - probably, one of my brothers still usues 98 and dial up) until the new PC is in place.
