Is the Conficker worm for real, or is this an April Fools joke? I just ran Windows KB890830 (with browsers closed), which listed conficker as a malware it was scanning for, and reported nothing found. Is that reliable? Does the term "disconnected from the internet" mean browsers closed, or ISP modem unplugged?
It means UNplugged, as browsers are not the only thing that connects to the internet, including viruses, spyware, backdoors, keyloggers, etc. etc. etc.
Apparently the mainstream media has been ramping up its hysterical coverage of the threat from Conficker. I am told that the article at the link below is another one of the best non-hysterical explanations of Conficker.
Here's a good article describing how Conficker will continue to be an issue for some time to come.
