Aside from total power outages my cable modem has been on for years now.

There do is a phenomena called "Electromigration" that severely limits the live of solid state electronics and is proportional to the time the device is in use and inversely proportional to the current flowing through it. (this is the main reason overcloaked hardware generally last less than hardware that is running at the designed speed, current is higher when overcloaking)

This being said, devices are designed to last a reasonable amount of time (at least until the warranty expires). So, will having it on all the time reduce the chronological life of your device? likely, but it's also likely that by the time it fails you would be better off upgrading to a new one anyway.

I keep mine on all the time.

Original question; Do you leave the modem on ALL the time?
Your answer; leave mine on 24/7 along with my cable modem

Does that mean you have two modems?

Sure, on all the time. My cable modem is near the cable entry to the premises, near the TV. I run a CAT5 across the house to another room where I have a router. Then on to my PC. Many/some/most modems aren't designed to be turned on/off and have no switch for that purpose, requiring you to unplug/replug.
