I have noticed this past month that the amount of junk mail I've been receiving has declined dramatically. Right now it's maybe 20% of what I was receiving 3 months ago--if that much. Most spam I receive does into a Junk Mail Box, which I empty manually. I've contacted friends and they have also noticed a marked decline in the amount of spam they are receiving. I haven't heard or read anything that could explain this. Have other members
noticed the overall amount of spam to their email client declining? Does anyone have any idea what has occurred to make the overall amount of spam in cyberspace decline so markedly?
I installed the spam fighter on my ISP about 6 months ago and spam dropped dramatically. Recently I find that their filter is letting more through even though I cranked it up last month.
Sounds like your ISP is doing a better job filtering spam than mine.
Dividing junk mail into two categories - totally unsolicited spam and phishing for one, and semi-solicited emails from past online purchase websites as the second, I've found there's been a reduction in the first category only because of better filtering, but there's a definite increase in the second category -- daily I get flooded to buy shoes and clothes and housewares and books, etc.
Here's what tech service at my ISP had to say when I broached the subject to them:
" I can only explain what has happened within our own corner of the Internet world. Our upstream provider has recently adapted his spam filtering program to use an RBL (Realtime Blackhole List) server to filter E-Mail even before it gets to our server for filtering. This has reduced the amount of junk mail handled by our server somewhere in the range of 40%. These servers are very reliable in not filtering out any good mail but blocking the known spammers of the world. "
So, yes, my ISP has recently improved their spam filtering program.
If anyone wants to see how well spam can be filtered, get a Gmail account. Their spam filter is excellent, I have not had a single piece of spam make it into my inbox, and have not detected any false positives were legitimate email was flagged as spam.
If Google can do such an excellent job for free, why can't ISP's?

I agree. Gmail seems to do an excellent job at trapping spam. The junk mail box seems easily catch around 100 pieces of spam per day. Hotmail also seems to have improved spam trapping. One or two slip through, but that's no big deal.
Even though mine is on the increase for some reason I still only get maybe 15 on a bad day. Earlier It was unusual to get two.
