So Google created it's own public DNS servers.

Google Launches Public DNS to Speed Up Web - Reviews by PC Magazine

Will you use them? Personally I believe there is no such thing as a free lunch and wonder what Google is after here.

Google knows more than enough about me. I'll stick with OpenDNS as well.

Wasn't that the part of the Internet that Al Gore was so proud of 'creating'?

He wrote a bill to fund those DNS servers with Federal money. So the Federal gubbermint stepped in and took it over [for national security], was how I thought the story went.

The root servers are overseen by IANA, but run by private companies, universities and other entities, including some government agencies (particularly in the case of the CCTLDs). Basically, these are the servers for COM, NET, ORG, UK, etc. All DNS lookups (not already cached) begin with a root server lookup.

As for the OP, no, I won't be using google for my dns. My servers do their own lookups, and I use OpenDNS for the household workstations. Google's trying to amass an enormous wealth of marketing data by running a DNS service - they don't need my help. Their marketing claims faster lookups, but really, DNS works plenty fast enough already. There's no reason to use google, unless you just want to help them target ads to you better.

I'm getting a little more skeptical on GOOG every day.

I use OpenDNS because of some post by NHDave, a very long time ago. If he's not changing then I'm not changing.

And NO, I woudn't have changed anyway as I've been skeptical of google since it's deployment. As swagger says, 'Google's trying to amass an enormous wealth of marketing data'. They don't need my help either.
