I created a password protected spreadsheet with the info, different tabs for types of accounts. The spreadsheet lives exclusively on a thumb drive.

There's another thread about passwords with a poster mentioning KeePass. I downloaded and use that now, v 2.23

KeePass Password Safe

Yes. I use the same basic password, and then add two characters at the end according to a code based on the name of the site.

A simplified example would be logonY for my Yahoo, logonG for my Gmail, logonF for First National Bank, logonC for City-Data, etc.
