i'm starting to use it more because i've come to dislike the politics behind google, although google results are usually better than bing, for my purposes.
where bing really excels is maps - especially the bird's eye function
how is anything better than google street view.. ?

Actually, I like Bing's birds-eye view. It has more coverage than street view, and because it lets you look from different angles, it's easier to check out property that way.
When Bing launched it seemed better than it does now. The quality of results seems really spotty to me. I still use Google, but I do check for Bing Cashback when looking to buy something. At first the Bing Cashback %s were great, but now they are uncompetitive and I can find better pricing via Google Shopping. Fwiw, there is a Bing music app for iPhone that is great - top 100 songs of each year for the past 50 years or so.
After seeing a couple of commercials on the new search engine Bing...
It's not new - it's Microsoft's search engine that they just re-branded. It still sucks just as bad as it always has.
Microsoft makes a great desktop operating system and a few good apps. That's where they started, and that's where they excel. They were late to get into the Internet, and they've never really understood it. They're always several steps behind the competition, and their search engine is no different.
The most positive thing I can say about Bing is that it inspired a catchy jingle. Fair warning before you click the video... it's the kind of song that can get stuck in your head for hours.
