They currently are offering 3%apy for a 1 yr CD...that is far better than anything out there...
Actually, no it's not.
If you read the fine print you'll see that the maximum deposit is $3,000 and it is not renewable at that rate. So essentially, they're giving you $90 for tying up $3k for one year. They then cut it down to $45 (1.5%) in subsequent years.
You can do better than that simply by opening a BoA or Chase checking account under one of their promotions. For example, I received $200 last year for opening a Chase account and depositing $1,500 (to avoid svc. charge) for 6 months. I then closed the account. In effect, I created a 6-month CD with an eye-popping APR.
Actually if you have 2 adults, it could be $6000, not $3000, so its still a great deal.
LOL. Okay. Well, if you have 2 adults, you both can open Chase checking accounts so you'll receive 2 bonuses.

I received the $200 offer in a flyer with my Chase credit card statement last year. A quick Google search reveals that although codes are available to still receive $200 or even $150, the standard offer is $125. But even so, that is still 40% higher than the $90 one would receive by opening a Navy FCU account. And you don't need to tie up you money for a year.
Read the additional fine print of the NFCU offer at the link at the bottom of the page (read important discloures): You must set up direct deposit of pay
