Yes the once mighty giant has come crashing down! Why do you think this has happened? I will veture to say horrible customer service on the wireless side and lack of any unique offering that would enable them to effectively compete with the big boys (Verizon and ATT).
Sprint might be cut to junk at Moody's | Kansas.com (broken link)
I can vouch for horrible customer service. I started off with Sprint and had no problems.
But things changed. They got rid of the tech people at their stores and sent you to the single store at the other end of town to get any repairs. Phone support got bad as well.
I gave up and switched to Verizon.
The sprint phone service was good..I had good quality and no dropped calls. But it was the customer service that drove me away.
Imagine that!!!!! The only landline gig in town was Sprint, until they got bought out by Embarq, same variation on the same bad melody. I thought deregulation was going to bring me more service providers, with better choices? Thats what they were selling..... wish I would have had a choice to buy.
Glad to see ATandT wireless highspeed data (HSPDA) coverage has finally started to catch up with Sprint and Verizon.
Honestly, Sprint is down right now. Well, their stock has been climbing back up nicely. But once the Wimax roll out starts I think they will be doing just fine.
I have only been watching Sprint. But exactly what does the other wireless companies have to compete with Sprints Wimax?
The JUNK rating is simply a lowering of the rating on their commercial paper. Many companies choose to run their finances with lower ratings so this by itself is not meaningful. The rating says nothing about their operations, profits, or future in the segment.
We had Nextel and when they merged with Sprint, it was a disaster. When my son took the phone to college, the service was lousy -- dropped calls, no service frequently. I called to complain and the customer service people were incredibly rude. (I was told that they provide service but don't guarantee it actually works!) Then, our billing was messed up, too, and they wanted to charge me $10 to speak with a customer service rep to get it straightened out!
Hate, hate, hate Sprint. I got it for my son but we dumped it as soon as possible and I got him a Virgin Mobile phone like I have.
