Are you stacking Au & Ag as an investment, e.i. to trade for worthless paper as the price goes vertical like they keep saying or are you saving it for when/if there's a whole new currency paradigm like a gold standard or total collapse with a black market?

I don't view it as an investment but rather insurance, and it makes sense to me to keep a small amount of wealth (3-5%) in physical metal that you yourself hold outside of the banking system. Currencies can and do collapse. I never viewed it as a path to riches. There are other far more lucrative investments out there for the other 95% of your wealth.
If you buy, your best bet is internationally recognized bullion coins from major mints. Ignore all the nattering naybobs who go on about storage costs and assay and gold "funds." You can trade bullion coins at coin shops and specialized bullion shops and even pawn shops all over the world any day of the week.
while i own gold frequently i never buy it with the doomsday scenario in mind .
if it ever came to where i need physical gold to survive, i wont own enough of it , will likely have it stolen or else bullets and guns would serve a far better useful item

I think that you are asking the question in the wrong forum.
While I have no issue holding small amounts of gold/silver, in a "doomsday" scenario it doesn't make much sense to me. Can't eat gold!
Why bother with any of it at all? If it's truly a "doomsday" scenario, then gold coins will mean no more to anyone than a couple of rocks lying on the ground. Food, drinking water, matches, clothing, shelter, and some means of keeping/defending the basics you have will mean everything.

Nor can you eat your Bitcoin or your stocks or your bonds, but that trope is only used to bash gold buyers.
Everyone supposes doomsday happens all at once. Far more likely to be a slow grind of failure, a la Venezuela.
