Great article on Goldman Sachs and their political influence. For those who think that Wall Street investment banks and advisors serve in the best interests of their clients.

Inside The Great American Bubble Machine : Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/28816321/inside_the_great_american_bubble_machine/print - broken link)

I am interested in hearing what others think about this article. Is the playing field imbalanced?

I think the small investor like me is just paddling in the wake of what Goldman and its former competitors do. I used to go through balance sheets quite thoroughly before investing in the late 90s. But as I learned about these shell companies and other shenanigans that large banks and hedge funds do, I look at a few values in the book and try to make an educated guess on future performance. Ive been looking at putting GS in the retirement account, as the more I see, the more they have their fingers in everything...like GE.

The playing field was NEVER balanced, and has ALWAYS been swayed toward the bigger institutional players. That is was, is, and shall be. Small investors/firms will get their own nuggets every once in a while, and will sometimes be able to cut the big guys to the punch, but in the big picture will always be fighting for the table scraps.

Kind of like mice having to make their way carefully around elephants. There is no point in trying to go against GS; better to be part of the gang.
