Hello

The plans to move to Iowa City have been finalized. I wanted to find out about new homes construction or custom built home in the Coralville area. Is custom built home common in Iowa and would anyone have any suggestions on builders?

Any advice on buying a new home and whether a price range 350_400k for a 2700-3000 square ft is possible?

Thanks

There are tornadoes all thru the midwest, Iowa/Iowa City could be just as likely as any other. That's why we build houses on basements! As for floods - there is a river that flows thru the city and it has flooded - most recently was just a couple years ago. You'll likely not build in the floodplain, as most new construction isn't by the river.

If you'd like names of builders - send me a private msg. Or post your email and I'll email you.

Your concern about the weather is valid. The city has been hit with both a tornado and a major flood in the last 10 years. However, floods and tornadoes are just part of living in the midwest--the trade-off for hurricanes and earthquakes, I suppose. But if you prepare, and know what to do, you'll be just fine.

There are some new houses going up in the Pennisula Neighborhood that are in your price range and around 2,500 sq. ft. It might be worth looking at.
