I live in Iowa City and planning to buy a 3/4 bed room house. But probably will not stay for more than 4-5 years. I am interested in renting the house after that. How is the renters market for iowa city? Due to the influx of people related to the University there should be some demand. I'd want to rent to University faculty or to the medical/hospital or PhD students who would be more of responsible renters than undergraduates. Are there housing associations that restrict renting?

*bump*
Can someone can give info? Basically my question is: How is the Iowa City housing market? Say if I buy now and decide to rent or sell after 4-5 years will I find buyers? Are there are enough people moving in to Iowa City to generate some activity in the residential real estate?

Iowa City is a college town, renting out a 3/4 bdr won't be a problem. Iowa wasn't hit hard by the real estate bubble. Prices just kinda flattened out. I don't see you losing money if you sell in 4-5 yrs.

Varies across the city, you should check the status of renting in that part of town.
