I have been to Iowa City once and going there again in a couple of days. I am of Indian origin. I love Iowans and Iowa, I have been living in IA for the last 4 yrs. Only problems is- every time I need Indian groceries, I have to make a trip to either Des Moines or Minneapolis. Are there any Indian grocery stores in Iowa city? It would be nice not have to mail order them like I had to some times. I am used to living without many things that are Indian but it would be definitely nice to have a grocery store.

I don't personally know of any grocery store with Indian food products in the Iowa City area or nearby, but did a Google search and this is what I came up with. Maybe one of the Indian restaurants in Iowa City might have a suggestion? Sorry I can't be of much help. Good luck.

Yes, as iagal points out, Taj is an Indian grocery store. There used to be a nice little place behind the Hardees on Highway 6, but I don't know if it ever re-opened after the floods. If you are in town, stop in one of the (3) Indian restaurants and ask for advice.

There are several general "Asian" groceries, and I think I occasionally got some Indian supplies at some of those as well.

I'm surprised Fairfield doesn't have an Indian grocery store, but if there is one I can't think where it would be.

Taj International Grocery, which used to be next to the Hardees, has now moved to 2419 2nd Street (2nd street is the same as Highway 6, which is the road that goes through the Coralville commercial/restaurant district). I am Indian myself, and purchase spices and other items regularly from them.

In addition, Des Moines isn't that far. You won't want to visit every month, obviously, but a once-in-awhile shopping trip might be a pleasant advanture.
