Then how do you explain the 8 lane segments,w/ brief swells to 10 lanes already found in downtown Des Moines & other 6 lane segments of freeway elsewhere in metro Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo-Cedar Falls, etc.
I've been on the Minnesota threads aplenty & have always been rather congenial there & have seen you there too but my roots are in Iowa & I have always felt that the Minnesota thing of looking down on & sniping at Iowa gets old fast.
Strangely enough, a fair portion of that type of thing that comes onto the Iowa threads is from Moderators. Go figure.

Completely agree with this. I've been commuting between CR and IC daily for the past 10 years. An extra lane on Interstate 380 would definitely help, especially around 6:00-8:00 AM. It's still nothing like Los Angeles traffic that I drove for many years, but it's becoming more congested. The University of Iowa has 13 commuter vans driving daily between CR and IC (8-16 passengers per van) and they are currently filled to capacity with a long waiting list, in addition to car pools. With all the projected building scheduled in the IC/CR corridor, traffic will continue to increase. Also another 51 commuter vans operating anywhere from Davenport, Mount Pleasant, Washington, and Williamsburg to the University.

I-380 needs to be widened and I-80 between Davenport and Iowa City needs to be widened to 6 lanes as well...

That has nothing to do with anything, I-80 and I-35 are one of the busiest interstates in the nation, passing traffic not just local traffic need to be considered.

I'm heartened to read about the commuter van pools operating in what must be sort of a spoke network out of the University of Iowa as well as their heavy usage.
Plus the perspectives here of people who live in Chicago & a CR resident who has driven in Los Angeles traffic but nevertheless sees the need for more lanes on I-380 in the CR/IC Corridor, are welcome input too.

Yes, it's busy, but for about an hour/day..hardly justification for widening the road..at a huge expense. Just really not necessary.
