Im a medical student who is a 4th year....I have to figure out where I want to go for my residency and I am really interested in Iowa. I was wondering what the life is like here...can a single, kinda nerdy, guy meet women in this town...is it very small. Also, is it mainly for the younger college crowd.

Unfortunately you aren't very specific on which town you are referring to. A little more details will help.

Iowa City is a college town so there are a lot of college age kids around. Both during school and during summer break. There are plenty of things to do especially considering the load of stuff you will be doing just for residency. I don't anticipate you having any problems as long as you "put yourself out there".

This is true, seems like everyone knows what residency entails haha....Ive heard that Iowa can be a bit cush in how it treats its residents so instead of working eighty im wishing for sixty hour workweeks....

Anyway, I mean I dont really hang at the bars so while Im not sure if I can get out there enough. I wonder what other things there are to do. I could go outdoors but is there something like a club that would allow for that. Im currently at a small college town atm but it doesnt have the academic status Iowa does but it has its drinking status...

In this city theres little for me to do during the winter and Im not sure if its because of the area or what. Is there something that Iowa city does to make it easier for its citizens to get together and commingle...

BTW my keyboard is broken and my questionmark and another letter dont work so Im sorry if there are mistakes and the lack of grammar. Thanks.

During the summer there are concerts downtown (free), along with other free "weekend" festivals (also free). You don't have to go to the bars necessarily, there are clubs and such as well. Check the local paper, the student paper for things to do. My brother in law and sister in law hooked up during his residency. And you never know who you will meet just working....

I lived in Iowa City for 25 years as an adult (11 years of college at U of Iowa, including the medical school).

You will fit in well. There is a big difference between the east side and the west side of the river (the latter being where the medical facilities are). You will want to live on the west side or in Coralville (for closeness to the hospital, better to be on the west side of Iowa City very close to campus). The area is very liberal and there are all kinds of people and lots to do, no matter what you like.

For your purposes, don't worry about the drinking statistics and partying reputation... mainly undergraduates and on the other side of the river. You will be in a completely different world.
