Hi -
Our family is considering a job opportunity in Iowa City.
The rub is we have a daughter who is a Junior in HS and is doing very well both Academically and Athletically in her current High School.

What is the best Academic High school in the Area - within 25-30 minute commute of Iowa City (North-side near Highway 80-ish) ? Athletics comes second to Academics, and this is a tough time to momve her...

Any and all input will be welcomed!
-MH

West High in Iowa City (public school) for academics and sports. It's located right down the street from the University of Iowa, and is heavily influenced by the University. An article in the local news today may give you some insight into their rating in the area. Regina High School also has a good reputation, but is a private Catholic high school.

If you divide at the river the east side of Iowa City from the west side of Iowa City and all of Coralville, isn't there generally more money to the west of the river and does this affect the demographics of the two schools?

West High and Regina if you're into the private school.

Otherwise Solon, or maybe Mt Pleasant if you're willing to drive south.

Hope this helps. https://k12.niche.com/rankings/publi...verall/s/iowa/
There are bigger more expensive homes being built on the east side simply due to more room and cheaper land. That being said, there is more lower income housing that as of right now, districted into City high. Regina is a private catholic religious school. My son graduated from West but unless I move (and i don't see that happening) my other two children will attend City high. -As a side note, a co-worker's daughter was accepted into the honors math program at the University of Iowa and graduated from City high.

There is a new high school in the works, but will not be built in time for your daughter to attend in north liberty. As it stands now, if you were to move to north liberty, depending on where you would live, your daughter would either attend west high or clear creek-amana.

As for athletics, both schools have had great teams in several sports. Be prepared to do some traveling to attend sporting events with other schools other than the immediate local schools. (depending on the sports your daughter would be in) Both schools offer many AP classes as well as allow students to take some college classes that would also be accepted as credit towards high school graduation.

I can try to answer any other questions if you wish.

The Clear Creek Amama district is very respectable, and is also growing very fast. The district includes part of North Liberty, Tiffin, where the Middle and high school are located, Oxford, and the Amana Colonies. Clear Creek was formed in the the 1960s replacing school districts in Tiffin and Oxford. Amana merged into Clear Creek in 1995. Tiffin and North Librity have exploded in recent years. As a result, a new high school opened in 2009, the middle school moved from from the Amana building to the former high school. North Bend Elementary opened in North Liberty, and a new Elementary school in Tiffin will open this year, and Clear Creek and Amana Elementary Schools remain open as well. Amana has the least number of students and the building is partly empty because it used to house all Amana students through 12th grade, and it later was home to the middle school after the merger with Clear Creek. I know the op has not responded, but I thought it would be a help. There are many good schools in the Iowa City area, but Clear Creek Amana stands out. They have a very good academic repetition and have strong fine arts programs such as band and theater.
