Can any one shed light on schools, commute time to Iowa City (downtown in particular). We are looking at various locations throughout the midwest to relocate, and IC has been mentioned. We have 3 young children (12yr, 7yr & 5 yr)

Also, can you tell me if IA has all day kindergarten by chance???

Thanks for any info you might have.

Riverside is a nice little town, about 20-30 minutes from Iowa City on four-lane highway. It's growing pretty quickly, as a lot of towns around IC are. Riverside has it's own school district, so you're looking at a very small school. I haven't heard much about Riverside schools, so that probably means, as best I can guess, they're about average. Of course, average for Iowa is still pretty good compared to other places!

I've always been partial to Solon, Amana and North Liberty over the southern areas myself. I've heard good things about Solon and CCA schools particularly--and both are building brand new buildings.

I don't believe Iowa has an all-day kindergarten law, but I think most bigger schools offer it. Of course there's always the private schools in IC too.

I live in North Liberty - we bought a house there about two years ago. I LOVE that we choose this little town over buying in Coralville or Iowa City. It's true that we're a little farther out from downtown, but I like that since I have no desire to be near the party crowd from the University. The town is totally geared to families and there are kids everywhere! We are still connected to all the bike trails and what not too, which is real nice when it's not winter.

This area can be tough to find a job in though - because of the University it's flooded with well educated individuals. If you have a highly technical degree or anything hospital related though it shouldn't be a problem. It's more an issue for us Liberal Arts folks.

NL is a good place, I'd stay away from Riverside, that casino is trouble, I've known 3 people who have been robbed outside of it.
