Does anyone know where I could take a community art class in Iowa City? (I mean classes not at the university-- I'm a UI student, but most of the art classes are reserved for art majors only.)
I'm new to the town, and am not really familiar with.. anything yet. I know that where I'm from, there were community art/dance/cooking classes that you take for a very small fee.. does Iowa City have anything like that?
Thank you!

I am almost sure there are many classes open to the community within the area, but I also would suggest for you to take a quick look at Kirkwood Community College. I am definately not suggesting for you to enroll there as a student since you attend one of the best public universities (UI). Though you might be able to enroll as a guest student and take their art classes at a decent price.

Kirkwood offers a bunch of stuff through their continuing ed options. We used to sit and daydream through the catalogue when we lived in Iowa City.

Also, look at the city of Iowa City Parks and Recreation department activities:

Parks & Recreation - Recreation Program

Check starting at page 23 in the link below and have fun!

Default Art classes

You might want to try a art gallery they could direct you to someone who is teaching on the side. Like DKW Galllery in Marion Iowa has artist studios and they have classes every week. Just check out the web site iowaartistcolony.com or dkwgallery.com.
