Hello, I'm new to the forum and was looking for some direction in Iowa City housing markets. I've lived in Iowa City while I was an undergrad and am now either thinking of moving back and renting, or buying and renting out the other rooms in the house. I was wondering what rent goes for in the area of about .5 miles from kinnick/UIHC. I've found a few houses but rentals are a pain to find online (this proximaty anyways). A little bit of direction would be great.

Thanks

Skittles.

I live in U Heights, don't know about rent since I own my house but you'll be looking at $150,000-$220,000 or so to buy a house here. Its a great place to live if you can get over the ******* cops.

I lived over that way near Mertyle Ave. Me and another guy rented a two bedroom for $600/month. Consider yourself lucky if you get away paying $300/month not including utilities. West side is generally cheaper than the east side which is party central and close to campus. East side you'll probably be looking at $400/mo w/a roomate or two.

Well I was figuring if I was 1/2 mile from kinnick/UIHC. Also gauging what I could charge if I do buy and decide to rent out the other rooms. There's a few houses on melrose/surrounding area for sale and that peaked my interest. Anybody know rent in that area (super close proximity to UIHC)? Was thinking med students are more apt to paying more for rent for the quieter neighborhood and closeness to the hospital. Any insight?
