You're very welcome. A lot of DM residents grew up in small town Iowa (including yours truly) and it isn't that hard to remember a time when I was also intimidated by "big city" driving/parking.

It gets better/easier the more you do it. Des Moines is a good city to start learning on. Then brave a trip to KC for some BBQ.

Aw, Capitalcityguy, it's good to know someone understands. I live in such a rural area that the rush hour traffic in, say, Mason city, used to bother me, haha! I'm getting better though, guys, I promise! I've managed Waterloo a few times, and I'm good at finding the back way (aka non freeway/interstate) in to bigger cities!

I work in down town Des Moines but have never been to simon estes either. I will be going in September as well. I live about 45 min from town so we are going to just stay at the embassy suites which is about 1/2 block from simon estes. Keep your fingers crossed on the weather!

Hopefully the water will be down by then! (I'm sure it will.) All shows for next three nights are all having to be held next to it on the Walnut Street bridge. BTW...the ampheatre is adjacent to the Embassy, not a 1/2 block away.

Adjacent is much better! I don't get over to that side much. I figured it would be worth the hotel cost not to have to fight any traffic and just relax afterwards. I did hear they were moving the shows to the bridge.

Yes, Embassy Suites is a great location! Beside walking to the concert, you can walk 2 blocks to the east (towards the Capitol) and be in the East Village, or go west across the river approx 3-4 blocks and be in the Court District Entertainment District. Great choice IMO!

When in the East Village, you could go to Olympic Flame, Open Sesame, Ban Thai, Noodle Zoo, Miyabi 9, House of Bricks, or other decent restaurants before or after the concert.

Went to Open Sesame last night for the first time. Cool place! Very small and cozy.

Open Sesame is cool, I've been there a couple of times. Des Moines was lacking in the Middle Eastern food department. It's kind of awkward when the belly dancers are there though. Good vegetarian/vegan menu too.

Ban Thai is another one I started going to recently. I really liked Thai Flavors but we had a very bad experience there a while back ago and have never been back so this place is filling the void.
