Need some info about good places to catch catfish here in Iowa, I have lived here for 6 months and still trying to find some places. I have been to Ada Hayden over by Ames, it was weak.

Yesterday, I went to Red Haw Lake over by Chariton, and did not catch anything. Some people say that the Des Moines river is a good place, especially north of Ft Dodge.

I went to Prospect Park in Des Moines today but I don't know anything about that particular section of the Des Moines River, I thought about bringing my pole and some bait but I also didn't want to waste hours especially if it is not a good spot, the currents at that particular spot did not seem too strong.

Anyways, any suggestions hopefully within 2 hours drive of Des Moines are appreciated!

I've caught some big catfish out on the Mississippi on a boat. Not too close to DM though.

Wait until it cools a little. Late summer catfish taste a little muddy.

Go to Iowaoutdoors.com, and look in their forums. That is a great resource for everything that has to do with fishing and hunting in Iowa. If you don't find what you're looking for, create a username and password and post a question in the catfish forum. Somebody over there will be able to help you out.
