As we build up towards the Straw Poll, debates, etc. NPR publishes a list of 5 surprising facts that you'd never guess about Iowa... unless you'd spent, say, an hour or two there.

Think You Know Iowa? Five Things You've Got Wrong : NPR

The comments on the actual article have been hijacked by Ron Paul discussion, but the comments on NPR's Facebook link are kind of amusing. Lots of whining about cold winters and "Isn't that where Captain Kirk is from?"

A fifth grader could have written a more connected article. Monoculture skips to gay marriage while bypassing all the diversity in cultures? Personally I think the latter is more telling than the former. Gay marriage is only on the table because of all the scared people who seem to think it will cause the end of the world.

There is nothing in the comments that surprise me. It is my experience that all the hate mongers and basement dwellers are the norm on that type of site.
