Anyone know if I-29 bridge repair is finished and highway is open ? Planning a trip north soon, need to travel north on I-29 to Fargo. My Google maps program says road may be closed.

Generally, the roads affected by the Missouri flooding are hopefully back in service by this winter. At least, that's what IDOT is saying...

I-680 to Fargo on I-29 is open except for occasional 2 lane traffic due to road repair. South of 680, don't know.

If you're coming from Arkansas or Kentucky, you might consider I-35 up to I-90 in southern Minnesota. I-90 west to Sioux Falls and then take I-29 north. Why I-90 instead of I-80? Traffic congestion, especially truck traffic. I-80 is 3 times more busy than I-90.

I came across western Iowa on I-80/I-680 to I-29 and north about 10 days ago. Other than a few short stretches of one-lane traffic on I-29 it was fine. There was the normal (or slightly more than normal) road construction in Sioux City and Sioux Falls that you might try to avoid at rush hour, but that was about it.

South of I-680 it's a mess, and I very seriously doubt it'll be open anytime this year, at least not for normal traffic flow. Much of it is still under water, and much of that that's not will require a complete rebuild from subsurface up.

If you need to come across to KC, MO for some reason, I'd suggest U.S. Hwy 59 from just south of the IA-MO border to I-80. Otherwise, just take I-35 up to Des Moines and pick up I-80 from there, or take it all the way through Iowa to I-90 in MN.

Last time through I-29 in Iowa about a week ago, all northbound and southbound lanes were closed near the Missouri state line, and they detoured traffic on two different county or state routes (one route for northbound traffic, and a different route for southbound traffic). Like previous posts have stated, check that Iowa DOT website for the latest traffic updates.

We drove from Minneapolis to Omaha a few weeks ago and they had I-29 detour signs all along 35, re-routing to I-90--it's quite the detour. I am guessing that detour was for semi's??
