I will be moving to Council Bluffs and attending Iowa Western. I have read a lot of mixed reviews on Council Bluffs. I am 18 and moving from Rockford, IL (160,000 pop.) and I have lived here my whole life. I will be visiting CB in about two weeks and I was wondering what are some things to do and see? Good places to eat? How is the economy? Crime? Traffic? Last but not least apartments?

Thanks!

Will you be living on campus? Iowa Western is in the extreme east-side of Council Bluffs. Basically, away from just about everything. There are two main shopping areas, right off Interstate 80. Metro Crossing, and Lake Manawa. It's easy to get on I-80 from IaWestern. Unfortunately, other than a few areas in the east part of Council Bluffs, and some businesses along I-80, most of Council Bluffs is a dump.

The per-capita crime rate in Co Bluffs is kind of high. I don't know why, but the crime rate cannot be any higher than some parts of Omaha.

The good news is that if you're wanting anything more urban, it's right across the river in Omaha.

I have been put on the waiting list for on campus housing. I will be getting an apartment. I will more than likely check out the shopping areas. From what I look at the shopping is pretty comparable to what we have here in Rockford. I see that Omaha has a zoo as well. Is that something worth checking out? Crime is very high here as well so I'm pretty sure what goes on there won't phase me much.

The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha is pretty amazing. Most people think the only one better is the San Diego Zoo. Definitely a go-to spot.

Crime? Well yeah, it sounds like you're not going to have a problem. I've got kids in Omaha, and none of them ever talk about Co Bluffs crime. I wonder if it's more stupid stuff like stealing, as opposed to violent crimes?

Yeah, I would guess so. I think all in all I'll like the area. Thanks for your replies!
