I just got a job offer in Dubuque, and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a little about your city. I have 2 kids 3 and 4 years old. What areas should I stray from? What cool things do they have there for children to do? What are the best parks for them to play? What companies will I need to contact for utilities and internet? Anything else that anyone can add that may be good to know before moving there would be greatly appreciated. I will be going alone at first to get established, and then will be bringing my family once I get things set for us. Thanks in advance!!

This may be too late, but the west and south parts of town are the best to live in. It doesn't have that many things to do, unless you count the museum and hiking. Eagle Point Park is a big park with lots to do, and Bunker Hill Golf Course is a great place for sledding. I don't know much about utilities.

Its been a month since you posted, if you still need help let me know. The advise for west or south end is dead on. Small parks that are great would be the City of Asbury park. They can run and play, and you will have great sight distance. They even do out door movies in the park in the summer. Utilites are Black Hills for gas, and Alliant for Power, cable your only choice is Media com unless you do satellite.

I grew up here so can fill you in on most anything. I thought as a teenager I wanted to leave, we stayed raised our 4 kids and very happy we stayed.

Hello, I am just now looking to relocate to the Dubuque area and would definitely like some info on the city. I am a single mother of 4 and I really want to know that this will be good for myself and my children. Life has not been easy, and I am really tired of barely getting by. I feel this will be good for us, but inside info will definitely help

Default Dubuque for retirees?

I don't hear much about Iowa cities for retirees. How about Dubuque? Are there any retirees there and can you share what you like/dislike about Dubuque for retirees?

Fairly inexpensive housing, very cold winters. Moderately high taxes and food prices. Not much happening.

Thank for the info.

It would be pretty hard for us to go back to the Midwest with the harsh winters there.
Doesn't seem to be anywhere in the Midwest where there is a nice Retirement Community such as this:

We like the lack of snow and mild climate here in Western Colorado.

Have you looked at other resources for info beside inquiring here on the C-D Iowa forum?
Overall the Iowa forum is not a busy one so the responses you'd get here could be quite minimal & short on detail.

Iowa is usually not a destination for retirees. Winters are too cold and there can be a lot of snow. Perhaps you should look into Missouri or Arkansas which are milder and not as pricey as some other places. All depends on what you are looking for.
