Here's a newly-announced example of investors putting their faith in the future viability of downtown Davenport.
The article notes that with this project, the block in question will be the first one in downtown to have been totally restored.
A partial list of other ongoing or planned projects is found in the last paragraphs.

This is great to hear. Although I've never lived in the QC area, I fell in love with Davenport a few years ago and am keeping an eye on its downtown redevelopment.

This is just part of a massive improvement of this corner of downtown Davenport. Here's a map and some images summarizing what's been happening.

Blue are completed renovations, yellow-ish orange boxes are projects currently under construction, and red are announced but not yet started.

★. The newest announced project that this thread is about, in the former Riverbend Antiques building.

Wow! Those are awesome pix of some real restoration progress in central Davenport.
There is a lot of character evident in those old structures that had varying original uses.
Personally I much prefer a city center with good old bones still evident than a downtown full of cheap, card board quality newer strip style developments or cities that lack old style type of downtowns.

QCI- Do you know if that train track is still in use? That'd be a cool bike/foot path.

......Very interesting thread..................

I went to college (Saint Ambrose ) in Davenport from Sept 1950 to my graduation in January 1955) and have many fond memories of my years there-----I met my late wife while attending college there in 1951....she was born and raised there and had an uncle that owned "BRUD"S TAVERN", which was located approx across the street from The Orpheum Theater if my aged memory is still working.

Does anyone remember Brud's Tavern? If so, how long did it remain operational?

Two other uncles owned farms further out in Scott County and allowed me to experience some of the best pheasant hunting I've ever had in my 70 years of being a "bird hunter". I'm sure I would hardly recognize anything downtown..........

Very much in use. That's the track that goes across the Arsenal Bridge, and sees quite a few trains every day. If Branstad and company ever come into the 21st century and approve passenger rail to Iowa City, that's the track it will cross the Mississippi on.

Davenport's new motto:

"Less dumpy than we were 10 years ago."

You probably wouldn't. Many buildings in downtown Davenport have been demolished and turned into parking spaces. That's progress.

Scott County is a good place to shoot defenseless animals. Davenport is a good place for shootings...period. Although, it's people that tend to get shot more often in Davenport than animals.
