My wife and I (and our dog) are moving back to the Boone/Ames area soon, and we are looking for houses to rent, but don't see much online. I grew up in Boone, but I'm not sure how to secure a house before we get there. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Contact the Ames housing department and they can give you a list of landlords. Call Hunziker, Fredrich Realty(sp?), etc and get a list from them. Without making calls you won't find anything.

Many many places in town won't open up until August 1st (you can ignore the Available column, it's really just if the listing is active or not). Keep up on Craigslist too, as some subleases may come up. And the Iowa State Daily paper is a good source:
