Electric cars? Okay, how do you generate enough electricity? Think it just comes spontaneously? Other than nuclear, no practical means is available that doesnt put anything into the atmosphere. More of interest is, why do so many people believe the fable of global warming? Over 400 scientists have come out against the hoax, only 58 showed up in their private jets in Tahiti (if they really were worried, why fly to Tahiti ? ).

Great. There was (another) one lane fender bender on I-380 today and southbound traffic came to a standstill for miles.

It'd really be nice to see a traffic study on this area with the coming completion of the highway of the saints and increased growth in CR and IC. Afterall isn't that why I-80 is being widened? Traffic stands still there every other day.

An extra lane would help a lot in these fender benders. Two lanes would allow traffic to at least move at 1/2 speed or so. Now it is cram the brakes until you are going about 20mph.

Oh well. Money better spent on casinos I guess

To be fair, they're only widening about 5-10ish miles of I-80 through Iowa City, and I'm not sure what the state/city/federal breakdown of the money is. Since 380 is a spur route, and since it would be 20-30 miles of work...it would cost a heck of a lot more than the widening through Iowa City.

Plus, it looks like they're doing the Iowa City 80 project the crummy cheap way...just cut two extra lanes out of the median. And even that is taking forever!

I drove to Marion the other day to see my eye doc (dads college buddy I get mad discounts) and 380 just needs to be repaved altogether, the center of the road is pretty much one long, foot wide pothole the whole way to CR. And don't worry I remembered to wear my biohazard suit :-p

God I hate Cedar Rapids, I swear people up there are **** poor drivers, I feel like some idiot is going smash into me every time I drive on Collins or Blairs Ferry.

And as zz4guy mentioned some idiots ran into each other on the INTERSTATE, seriously how do you get into a fender bender when you are supposed to be going 70mph?! I think drivers need to be retested every five years to see if they are fit to be driving. Traffic and car accidents would decrease significantly if they did this.

It is taking forever--on something that should have been done ten years ago.

What really needs to be redone as well is the I-80/380 interchange. They gave it a half assed attempt a few years ago when they extended a couple merge lanes but it is still trecherous.

We have no problem doubling education spending and giving our useless governor a 20% raise. But highway safety? It can wait.

are you seriously saying that road construction is more important than educating the future leaders of this country?!

I don't have kids, and all my friends and family can properly merge onto an interstate without issue.

In fact we could stop most car crashes with better/more strict driver education. Therefore pouring more money into education will be safer then a temporary road construction fix.
