Her characters and the relationships and stories portrayed in her novels ("A Thousand Acres", "Some Luck", etc.) are all very complicated and deep, but as a person who has never visited Iowa, I find the Midwestern farm setting very warm and idyllic. Are you a fan of her books?

Yes, I've read everything she's written. She is, or was, a professor ISU in Ames, I think. And yes, her books are very evocative of life in this part of the Midwest. "Moo" is very much a fictionalized version of the goings on at ISU. Pretty funny! And her recent book "Early Warning" (or maybe it was in "Some Luck"?), although fictional, explained very clearly the evolution in regional agriculture from diversified small farming to corn/soybean monoculture post WWII.
