Hi, all

Husband and I are Iowans living in No Cal, and aging parents on both sides would love it if we moved back to Iowa. He's from West Des Moines, I'm from the Dubuque area. Halfway between the parents comes out to be Cedar Rapids or Iowa City.

He's on disability and dialysis, so he needs a larger town with a center. My job is office admin/data entry, so I can pretty much go anywhere. Due to health issues, we don't have kids. A good library is a must, tho.

Any thoughts on one city over the other?

Probably not helpful but either place will be fine. Iowa City has the U of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, CR has 2 hospitals and a large medical community as well. There are specialized dialysis centers in both areas. Libraries are plentiful as well. Iowa City is more "college town" and Cedar Rapids is more "business town" but either would work for you. Iowa City being on I-80 would be a tiny bit easier for travel. Iowa City has a little bit better shopping but CR has pretty much everything as well.

If this makes a difference to you: housing in Cedar Rapids is much less expensive and easier to find than housing in Iowa City.
