Preservation Iowa named that old Unitarian church one of the top six most endangered properties in the state this year. I used to drive by it on my way to work every day. At the time it housed the studio of a local Christian TV station, but I think that's been off the air for awhile.

Right now it's the center of controversy because the people who own the church removed the windows in August claiming they wanted to protect them during a roofing project, but the city insists that they return them because the absence of the windows additionally compromises the structural integrity of the building. The city is pushing to tear it down.

Taking a trip on the Wayback machine:

Here is a postcard featuring Kingman Blvd in Des Moines in the mid 1920s. It more or less looks the same today, except that the cars are a lot newer and there's trees in the median (courtesy of cardcow.com):

The Iowa Capitol, an American classic. I won't bore you with a lot of photos of a building I'm sure you've seen a million times before, but I thought the lowering of the chandeliers for cleaning might interest some.
