I am a senior in High School going into college. I have limited my applications down to only two schools: 'Cuse and Virginia Tech. That said, UNI interested me. The success in this year's NCAA Tournament helped my interest, and the school looks very interesting from research I did on it even with the epic collapse vs TA&M, but I have a few questions. I am going to school in computer science and I have an 1840 SAT Score, 27 ACT Score, and a 3.8 GPA. The UNI website says I have until May 1st to send in an application and only a $40 application fee. Here are my questions:

1. How is the computer science program at UNI?

2. How loyal are the fans? Like do students show up at the football/basketball games even when the team is not playing well, or are they fair weather fans?

3. How is the personality of the students?

4. Do I really have until May 1st to apply? Most colleges require acceptance decision by May 1st.

5. How is the track and field program at UNI?

6. How easy would it be to walk onto the track and field team? My fastest 5K time is 16:09.

Thanks for the help. I plan on visiting Virginia Tech, but I visited Syracuse University once and while a few students were nice, a majority of the students sounded like d***s. If I do apply, I will definitely visit UNI. Thanks for the help.

Iowa State is well known for their excellent engineering program. A friend of my daughter's went to UNI as a computer engineering major, but transferred to the University of Iowa to finished his degree. He felt UI had a much better program than UNI offered. According to him, UI's specific program in computer engineering is not as well known as Iowa State, but very good also.

Ah, the liberty of anonymity! I work at UNI and can say, go anywhere else for any computer related education. It's very limited here and has no real reputation. It's a small liberal arts university with teacher training as a core mission. As to sports, ignore it anywhere, it's all peripheral to education.

I went to UNI for 2 years. Though I was not in an IT program I found the education poor, the teachers passionless, and the culture nonexistent.

I opened the thread thinking it would be a simple question:

How did UNI lose that game?!?!?!

Inbound passing. That is all... Collapse of epic proportions. Both athletic and coaching collapse.

I am sure there a many excellent schools in your neck of the woods with CS programs. Not sure why you are considering UNI. If you want to get away from the East coast try Iowa or Illinois; both their CS programs are miles ahead of UNI.
